FOR MY WEAVE/EXTENSIONS WEARERS!!! What Your Stylist May Not Tell You.. To Guarantee You Are In His/Her Chair...
There are great benefits of wearing extensions. Whether you are wearing the for style/fashion, length, fullness, to give your hair a break or to assist in growing you hair out (ie. going natural etc.)
I will say that your hair has to taken care of before installation, during installation and after it is taken out!!!Your hair can really grow when wearing extensions when installed and taken care of properly. If your hair is not taken care of properly before, during and after, you cannot expect for it to be any better by wearing extensions.
The majority of my clients get their extensions back to back, as well as myself. But I am available to treat, condition and really care for their hair. They have seen tremendous growth and have seen their hair in a healthier state than before they began wearing the extensions.
Here are a few tips and things you MUST DO in order to see these benefits:
Before: I treat and trim my client’s hair each time we are about to install their extensions. I highly recommend you do the same!! ( I am more than willing to trim your hair as this is a part of the service)*If you have taken your extensions out already or have not, please treat your hair with a pure protein treatment or protein based (re constructor) conditioner. This strengthens the hair.(Organic Root Stimulator- Hair Mayonnaise or Replenishing Pack; a 5n1 Conditioner) With Hair Mayonnaise I suggest adding an egg the first time!
*Moisturizing Conditioner - (any conditioner in which you need to let it sit for 15-20, with or without a cap, under a dryer…This is a process that I continue to do each time we install hair. I recommend rotating the different treatments/conditioner depending on the state of your hair.** DO NOT RELAXE OR COLOR your entire head!!!! This is a waste of time (most of that hair will be braided anyway) and it promotes breakage!!!!
** TOO MUCH PRODUCT!! When you use too much product you are suffocating your scalp this will counteract what it is suppose to do! Professional products are concentrated so you only need a little bit. Please read and follow the instructions on products bought from the beauty supply, walmart, target etc.
During:*While you are wearing your extensions, PLEASE wash your hair!!! Every 2-2 1/2 weeks should be sufficient. When you wash you will need 2 different shampoos (cleanser, moisturizer) and a conditioner. I recommend a leave-in conditioner as well.
*You will need to sit under a dryer for a minimum of 1 hour to dry. Any time less and you risk mildew. Washing will not completely rid the hair of all dirt and buildup, but will help to eliminate some. When you do not wash your hair you increase the risk of the building up bonding together and your hair matting underneath.* Be careful of the product that your are using on your Indian Hair. The products geared towards African American hair is a lot heavier than needed and will weigh the hair down. Product brands I recommend are: Paul Mitchell, Sebastian, Aquage.. these can be purchased at ULTA or should be available at select salons
** There is a time frame in which your extensions can be worn. I DO NOT recommend you wearing you extensions longer than 2 1/2 mths. Depending on you hair texture, matting/breakage/loss of hair can occur.
After:* When you take (or have someone else!!!) out your extensions, detangle with a wide tooth comb. Shampoo,Treat,Condition and trim your hair. Whether or not you will be putting the extension right back in these steps are important in establishing and maintaining a healthy head of hair.
**If this is something you are not comfortable doing yourself please go see a professional!! There is nothing worse than doing it yourself and doing it wrong; whether it be using the wrong products or not using them correctly..
